From August 26 to 30, the Conference of the European Science Education Assosciation was held in Bologna, Italy.
2000 Participants from all over the world share new experience, research and ideas in the sciences and evolving disciplines like digital humanities, artificial intelligence or digitally enhanced STEM education as well as socio-scientific issues in a digitalized world.
The conference gave the impression that the sciences seem to be grateful users of digital resources and early adopters of technological developments. Yet, research on the efficacy in the implementation of digital technologies seems scarce.
CRE/ATE delegate Alexander Koch held a presentation on prerequisites of Swiss student teachers to implement technology education in their instructions. Alexander showed that it is not enough if digital technology and engineering technology find a place in the student socialization. The topics need a pedagogically profound basis.
These results highlight the importance of technological pedagogical (content) knowledge.
